    Q & A:

    • QUESTION #1: From Namiki.

I’m Japanese and since I’ve had my baby I now have dark spots on my face. I am afraid to use facial bleach because I am still breast feeding. I don’t wear make-up so make-up is not an option.  I also have very sensitive skin. Do you know of a natural remedy that might work to fade these spots?

    LOUISA’S ANSWER:

Hi Namiki. This remedy works really well. All you need is a fresh lemon and some witch hazel. You can find witch hazel at a drug store for about $3. Squeeze the juice of ½ a lemon and combine with a ¼ cup of witch hazel. Using a Q-tip dab each spot on your face each evening. Leave on overnight. This mixture will keep in the fridge for 5 days. Then make a fresh batch.

    • QUESTION #2:  From Diedre:

Louisa, I’m writing for both my teenage daughter and myself. We each have oily skin. My daughter, Gracie suffers from occasional blemish breakouts like most teenagers, and I am concerned about scars on her face. We’ve tried products, but nothing has worked. And I have enlarged pores with some acne scarring. I’m on a tight budget – Can you suggest something for both of us?

    LOUISA’S ANSWER:

Hi Diedre. The solution I suggest will help both you and Gracie because it does a number of things. It keeps blemishes in check, fades blemish and acne scars, reduces enlarged pores, and even helps firm the skin. And all you need is some plain yogurt and a fresh lemon.

Combine 1 tbsp of plain yogurt with the juice of ½ lemon in a bowl. Apply this mask onto clean skin and leave on for 20 minutes. Then rinse it off with tepid (warm) water. This mask also brightens your complexion and creates a face lift like effect if you leave it on for an hour or more.

    • QUESTION #3: From Chrissy:

My scalp is dry and itchy and I sometimes get dandruff.  I’ve tried the dandruff shampoos I’ve seen on commercials but the flakes keep coming back and I don’t like the smell. Do you have a natural solution?

    LOUISA’S ANSWER:

Hi Chrissy! This recipe is super effective and easy to make. You’ll need 2 peppermint tea bags, one cup of water and ½ cup of apple cider vinegar.

Boil the cup of water or heat in the microwave. Steep the tea bags in the  water for 10 minutes and let cool to room temperature. Remove the tea bags, pour the cooled tea water into a plastic bottle, and add the apple cider vinegar. Store the plastic bottle in the shower.

After shampooing and conditioning, rinse your hair with tepid water. Then  use the mixture in the plastic bottle as your final rinse. Do not rinse this mixture out. Your hair will not smell like vinegar, your scalp will stop itching, and your hair will also become more shiny.
